Congratulations to both Monterey Highlands and Garfield Schools for being recognized as
of the 424 California Elementary Distinguished Schools for 2014! Tom Torlakson, State
Superintendent of Public Instruction, informed the schools and stated, “This award is a
direct reflection of the dedication, hard work and vision of the school’s educational
community.” Monterey Highlands School will also receive an additional award for their
Exemplary Physical Activity and Nutrition Program. The news release identifying all
the 2014 California Distinguished Elementary Schools is posted on the California Department
of Education’s home page at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ under “What’s New.” Both schools will
be recognized by Tom Torlakson at a Distinguished School Regional Ceremony in June.
